FRESHMAN sire Excites sired his first runner today – and it won.

Amber’s Crown, a two-year-old chestnut filly trained by Steven O’Dea at Eagle Farm, came from last at the Gold Coast sweeping past her rivals to win the 900m sprint by 1.8-lens.
“She has always shown good ability on the track, but is still a bit green,” O’Dea reported.

“She only had her first trial on Tuesday morning so she’s done a big job in a short time.
Following her debut win, Amber’s Crown will now be given a break with feature QTIS 600 races in mind.

“We’ll send her to paddock now and there’s no doubt she will be a better filly next preparation.
“There is a $250,000 QTIS 600 feature race at the Gold Coast in March co-including with the QTIS 600 Yearling Sale – that will be her main aim next prep.”

Staff at Vinery were obviously delighted with today’s outcome, forecasting a bright future for their popular young freshman.
“You couldn’t ask for a better start for Excites than to sire a winner from his first starter but to do it so impressively, well that’s the icing on the cake,” says Vinery’s Conor Phelan.
“I know it must be even more special for Barbra Cathcart who bred Amber’s Crown because her dam, Bovespa, has returned to Vinery and was covered by Excites today of all days!”

Excites is a son of five-times Group One winner Danewin out of the million dollar mare Staging whose foals also include stakes-winners Duporth and Tickets.
Raced by his breeders Peter and Wendy Moran, Excites won the Group One AJC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) at only his career third start.
Excites trained on to finish second in the Group One MRC Caulfield Guineas (1600m).

“Being a Group One winner, there is a reasonable expectation that he will throw his share of two-year-old winners,” Phelan said.
“Today was a great start, I know from the reports we’ve been getting back from owners and trainers that there are more out there ready to debut in the near future.
“No doubt the connections of those horses will take a great deal of encouragement from what Amber’s Crown did today.”

Amber’s Waltz is a daughter of More Than Ready mare Bovespa, who won twice over 900m and was placed at Kensington and Canterbury.
Amber’s Crown was sold for $14,000 at the 2009 Magic Millions National Weanling sale on account of Baraton Stud.
