TALENTED Mossman gelding Under The Eiffel is poised go one up on his illustrious sire by winning tomorrow’s $750,000 Group One VRC Australian Guineas (1600m) at Flemington.

Connections of the Tony Vasil trained 3YO paid the $41,250 late entry fee in the wake of the horse’s fast finishing second in the Group Two MRC D’Urban Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield last start.

”Obviously it’s a big jump in class to a Group One but he hasn’t done much wrong this time in and the mile at Flemington will definitely suit him,” Vasil’s racing manager Sam Doran said.

Under The Eiffel has won three of his five starts and was runner-up at his other two.

He arrives for his Guineas showdown with much less experience than his sire Mossman did in his classic year.

Mossman had 16 starts under the belt including win a Group One win (the QTC Classic) and a course record win in the Group Two MVRC AAMI Vase (2040m).

”In 1999 when Mossman ran in the Guineas the race was over 2000m to fit in the short-lived Triple Crown,” Vinery’s Conor Phelan recalled.

”Mossman ended up running second to Dignity Dancer by a length. Dignity Dancer won the Triple Crown and Mossman placed behind him in all three legs and was beaten a nose then lodged an unsuccessful protest in the Alister Clark.”
