MYBOYCHARLIE son Dowdstown Charlie set forth his Golden Rose aspirations with a fast finishing third behind ruling pre-post favourite Eurozone in The Rosebud (1200m) at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday.

The David Payne trained gelding was slow to move and was a conspicuous last as the field passed the half way mark.

Jockey Jason Collett rolled the dice electing to take an inside run aboard the gelding who responded with a now typical strong finish despite a checkered passage.

Dowdstown Charlie is Myboycharlie’s third black-type performer from his opening Vinery crop joining Silver Slipper runner-up Charlie Boy and Kiwi Group 2 placegetter Charlestown who was second in the Wakefield Challenge Stakes in January.

Myboycharlie’s other local winners include the Anthony Freedman trained Charles in Charge who took out the Adelaide Magic Millions 2YO Classic (1200m) at Morphettville on March 11 and remain undefeated during his juvenile campaign.

Dowdstown Charlie is the first foal of the Danehill Dancer mare, Raindane, who traces back on a direct line to 1945 Melbourne Cup winner Rainbird.

Dowdstown Charlie was sold for $140,000 at the 2012 Magic Millions Yearling Sale on the Gold Coast, one of 8 at the main session for a total price of $940,000 at an average of $117,500.

His dam, Raindane, was served again by Myboycharlie last season.
