Vinery stallion Mossman sired his fourth stakes winner in the last 16 days when Dothraki dug deep in the Hilton Hotels Stakes L (1400m) on Saturday.
Dothraki (3c Mossman – Volantis by Flying Spur) narrowly denied Suavito and then survived a protest from the runner-up at Flemington.
“He relaxed on the bridle,” jockey Nash Rawiller said before the inquiry. “When I went for him – he responded.”
Mossman’s black-type momentum began with Buffering in the G1 Manikato Stakes on Cox Plate eve and continued with Royal Zulu Warrior (G2 Emperors Palace Mile) last Saturday and Plucky Belle (G3 Lavazza Short Black) on Melbourne Cup day.
Dothraki is raced by Triple Crown Syndications after making $45,000 from Baramul Stud at the 2012 Magic Millions National Sale. He is from a winning half-sister to Simonstad (G3 VRC Rupert Steele Stakes).
Trainer Gerald Ryan said he had always rated Dothraki very highly. The colt was a December 2yo winner at Canterbury and was also runner-up to Sidestep in the G2 Pago Pago Stakes at Rosehill.
“He’s the only one who can keep up with Snitzerland in the morning,” Ryan said. “After he was placed on the horse at Randwick last month, Jay Ford said he would appreciate stepping up to 1400 metres in race with less tempo and here we are!”
Dothraki is named after a tribe of warriors skilled in horse-mounted warfare in the TV fantasy show “Game of Thrones”.
Mossman (Success Express) has now sired 25 stakes winners and he stands for a $19,800 (inc gst) service fee at Vinery.
