GLOBE-trotting mare Ortensia has added one final feather to her cap having been crowned Country Horse of the Year at a gala evening in Sydney last Friday.

The daughter of Testa Rossa has been a fabulous ambassador, not only for her home-town of Scone, but the nation as a whole given some tremendous performances on the world stage.

Her major wins aboard include the Group 1 Al Quoz Sprint (1000m) on Dubai World Cup night where the mare swept down the middle of the Meyden track to score by 1.3-lens.

Ortensia spent the Europe summer in the UK where she added the Group 1 Nunthorpe Stakes (1000m) to her tally as well as the Group 2 King George over the same distance at Glorious Goodwood.

Ortensia was Lot 333 at the 2008 Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale and sold to $50,000 to agent Steve Brem on behalf of popular Scone identity Alistair Fraser.

Ortensia won stakes races in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth – two Winterbottom Stakes in 2009 and 2011.

She retired with earnings of close to $2.5m.
