AUSTRALIAN-BRED, More Than Ready colt Gimmethegreenlightkicked off his career in the best possible way with a sterling debut win at Turffontein in South Africa last Saturday.

The youngster proved too strong for favourite Soweto Slew powering away to claim the Protea Juvenile Plate (850m approx) at the nation’s premier racecourse.

Gimmethegreenlight was sold by Vinery Stud (as agent) for $155,000 at the Magic Millions Gold Coast National Weanling sale in 2009 to present owner Hassen Adams.

The colt was the fourth foal delivered by the handy Canny Lad mare Yes She Can Cancan whose career best performance was when she placed fourth in the Group 2 AJC Light Fingers Stakes.

Her previous foals include the stakes-placed La Goulue and Ron Quinton’s smart sprinter, Ofcourseican.

”I remember Gimmethegreenlight as being one of the most admired colts at the sale that year” says Vinery’s Adam White.

”He made good money at the time, $155,000 for a weanling, is right up there, so it’s great to see his breeder and now owner get the reward and there looks plenty more ahead for the colt over there.”
