TESTA Rossa gelding Red Colossus lost none of his admirers despite going down by a narrow margin in today’s Group 1 SAJC South Australian Derby (2500m) at Morphettville.

The Greg Eurell-trained gelding was sent out equal favourite with the Darley owned Kidnapped – the pair staging an epic struggle for the entire length of the straight to reach the line virtually in unison.

Red Colossus was aiming for his fourth consecutive win having strung together the Port Adelaide Guineas and Chairman’s Stakes in the lead-up.

Had he been able to claim Sunday’s Group 1 feature, Red Colossus would have emulated the Peter Moody-trained Testa Rossa gelding Testafiable who won the SAJC South Australian Derby in 2006.
