MORE Than Ready mare Magic Broomstick bid farewell to racing in the best way possible storming to victory in the $150,000 Grade 3 Bessarabian Stakes (7f) at Woodbine in Canada over the weekend.

A six-year-old daughter of Vinery Stud’s globally acclaimed sire, Magic Broomstick came from off the pace staging a five-wide run around the final bend to collar her rivals in the closing section to score by 1 1/4-lens.

It was the mare’s eighth career win at her 16th and final start sending her off to stud with close to half a million dollars in earnings.

Her Grade 3 win sits atop of previous victories in the Memories Stakes and Avowal Stakes both of them Listed races run at Woodbine.

Magic Broomstick was also placed in the Grade 2 Canadian Stakes and fourth in the Dance Smartly, also at Grade 2 level.

 

“She’ll be going to Kentucky to be bred,” spokesman Michael Balaz told Daily Racing Form’s Ron Gierkin.

“The ideal of the year was to get some stakes wins, which she more than did. She’ll be a wonderful addition to our broodmare band.”

 

Magic Broomstick is one of 107 individual stakeswinners sired by More Than Ready.
