All Too Hard filly Sasso Corbaro emerged as a key candidate for the Magic Millions Guineas RL (1400m) after completing a winning hat-trick at Randwick on Saturday.
She made short work of the $100,000 TAB Hcp (1300m) and the three-length victory saw her price tumble into $8 for the $2 million event at the Gold Coast on January 13.
Sasso Corbaro races for China Horse Club after making $290,000 from Mill Park at the 2016 Magic Millions Yearling Sale. She is from Morphettville stakes-performer Furline (Tale Of The Cat) and is also closely related to Mill Park’s Epsom Hcp Gr.1 winner Captain Sonador.
A maiden winner at Newcastle in July, she returned from a spell with a couple of mediocre trials that worried trainer Kris Lees. “She wasn’t hitting the line so I took off all the extra gear and it did the trick,” he said. “She showed a good turn of foot to win first-up at Hawkesbury and hopefully this result gets her to the Gold Coast.
“She went to another level today and in better company. She had to make a bit of an effort to get inside of horses, then relax and go again.”
Sasso Corbaro has banked $135,930 and that should be enough to the make the final field for the Magic Millions Guineas. She is named after a UNESCO World Heritage listed castle in Switzerland.
All Too Hard colt All Too Huiying is already in Queensland for the $1 million Magic Millions Trophy (2200m). He won the Connoisseur Stakes LR (1800m) at Flemington last month and lost no friends when beaten a half-length in the Aquis Farm Ladies Day Hcp (1800m) at the Gold Coast last week.
A half-brother to Group 1 star Good Journey, he’s another Mill Park graduate and was a $150,000 buy for owner Amy Feng at the 2016 Adelaide Magic Millions.
There have been numerous updates to All Too Hard’s draft for the Gold Coast Magic Millions starting on January 10. Among the yearlings from Vinery Stud is the chestnut colt from Vo Rogue Stakes-LR winner Dirty (Hussonet). Catalogued as Lot 666, he is a half-brother to Cabeza de Vaca who was runner-up in the Villiers Stakes Gr.2 at Randwick a fortnight ago.
