FLIGHT Stakes winner Cheeky Choice has topped the opening day of the 2010 National Broodmare sale on the Gold Coast today knocked down to for $1,025,000.

The daughter of four-times Champion Australian Broodmare sire Danehill was in foal to Vinery Stud Champion stallion, More Than Ready.

It is the same cross which provided two of More Than Ready’s Group One winners namely Benicio and Perfectly Ready.

The winner of four races including the Flight Stakes (Gr 1) and the Tea Rose Stakes (Gr 2), Cheeky Choice is a three-quarter sister to Listed winner Danasia, the dam of this season’s Rosehill Guineas (Gr 1) winner Zabrasive (Zabeel).

Cheeky Choice has had two foals, both by Encosta de Lago and is in foal to Champion Stallion and proven producer More Than Ready so it came as little surprise that the opening bid was $500,000. The sale was relatively short with a rapid-fire exchange of bids, the final nod of $1,025,000 belonging to Gerry Harvey, signing in the name of his Baramul Stud.

“She’s a lovely mare who proved her class on the racetrack and she has a bright future ahead at stud,” Harvey said. “She would be a stand out at any farm around the world.”
