MORE Than Ready’s chances of delivering his first Blue Diamond Stakes and his third Golden Slipper winner got off to a bright start after the Danny O’Brien colt Cambiaso won the prestigious Listed $100,000 VRC Maribyrnong Plate Trial (1000m) at Flemington earlier today.

More Than Ready, widely recognised as the most potent source of 2YO’s world, provided the 2008 Golden Slipper winner Sebring as well as 2009 Magic Millions/Golden Slipper winner Phelan Ready plus flying Adelaide filly Augusta Proud who won the Gold Coast and Morphettville legs on the Magic Millions in 2007.

Cambiaso, bred by John Cornish’s Torryburn Stud, was well supported to emulate Sepoy’s win in last year’s Trial sent out as the $3 favourite and didn’t disappoint.

“He’s a beautiful colt,” O’Brien said
“He was a lovely yearling and he’s one of those horses from the minute you broke him him that he was pretty special and he’s done this today pretty much on raw ability,” O’Brien said.

“He’s only had the one jump-out.
“We’ll put him away now. He’s going to be a really serious two-year-old in the autumn.
“We’ll give him a break and aim him for the Blue Diamond and possibly Sydney.

O’Brien won the 2010 Blue Diamond with outstanding colt Star Witness and Cambiaso is owned in similar interests – by O’Brien, Surace Bloodstock and Star Witness Bloodstock.
Ridden by Dwayne Dunn, Cambiaso ($3 fav) travelled well in the first three in the 1000m Listed event and went on to score by a half length from Imprimis ($31) with Lil Red Corvette ($5.50) 1-1/4 lenths away third.

“He only had one trial and he was going so well we thought we may as well give him a look at the races before he goes out,” O’Brien said.
“These sort of horses that can do it so easily without being pushed, they’ve got big futures.”

Cambiaso is a son of the former ace mare Flying Alpha (by Flying Spur) and is thus bred on the exact same cross as the aforementioned Sebring.

The colt is the 90th individual stakes winner sired by More Than Ready.

Cornish has enjoyed conidserable success with the breed have supplied Gai Waterhouse with her 2010 Pago Pago Stakes hero, Brightexpectations.
