MOSSMAN son Buffering is poised to emulate the deeds of former rival Black Caviar and make it back-to-back MRVC Moir Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley this coming Friday night.
The Robert Heathcote trained galloper turned in a rousing gallop in between races last week signalling to his handler that it’s all systems go for his spring return.
“I love to see him dancing around the enclosure like he did before his exhibition gallop at Doomben,” Heathcote told AAP.
“He’s ready. Everything has gone exactly to my plan.”
Heathcote elected to give Buffering a hit out between races last Wednesday at Doomben to ensure he was mentally, more so than physically, prepared for the Moir.
“It wasn’t so much for a course proper gallop (but) I wanted him in the race day stalls, to hear the loud speakers, with lots of people and lots of activity … a simulated raceday,” Heathcote said.
“Because horses can get themselves a little bit worked up, I wanted to knock any anxiety on the head before the Valley.”
Should Buffering be able to claim successive Moir’s like Black Caviar achieved in 2010 and 2011m, he would also be rewarded with his well-earned break through Group 1.
The Moir began as a Group 2 when it was inaugurated in 1976 but it’s epic honour roll has lifted it to the highest level.
