MOSSMAN son Buffering is poised to follow up his richly deserved breakthrough Group 1 win with another when he tackles the $1m VRC Sprint Classic (1200m) at Flemington.

This would cap a big week for his sire Mossman who had Royal Zulu Warrior add a Gr.2 in South Africa and Plucky Belle in Gr.3 at Flemington.

Buffering, a two-times Queensland Horse of the Year, led throughout to beat world class Hong Kong galloper Lucky Nine in the MVRC Manikato Stakes G.1 under lights on Cox Plate eve.

Buffering has proven himself to be most adept up the `straight six’ finishing a nose 2nd to Hay List in the VRC Newmarket Handicap (1200m).

He was also second in last year’s VRC Sprint behind the champion mare, Black Caviar.

Dual Salinger Stakes winner Fontelina shapes as the forgotten horse at $17 with TAB Foxed Odds.

The son of Testa Rossa carried 3.5kg more to win the 2013 Salinger Stakes than his 2012 effort when last produced by trainer Anthony Cummings on November 2.
