OUTSTANDING Mossman three-year-old Buffering fired the opening shot in his winter campaign when claiming the scalp of last start Galaxy Handicap winner Atomic Force in a dazzling display of sustained speed to win today’s Group 2 BRC Victory Stakes (1200m) at Doomben.

The Robert Heathcote trained galloper pinged out the barriers to take up the lead and ensure that the race was run at a testing tempo maintaining an even gap on the chasers in a masterful show of timing by rider Larry Cassidy.

And while the very much in-form and battled hardened Atomic Force had his chance to test Buffering, who was first-up, the local star kept him at bay to score an emphatic 1.3-lens win in the old Sir Byrne Hart won in previous years by luminaries like Rough Habit and classic gun Handy Proverb.

Buffering’s latest win sees his earnings top the $700,000 mark inside just a dozen starts of which he was won 7 and placed 4 times.
In fact his only unplaced run was when fourth in the VRC Coolmore Stud (1200m) at Flemington on Derby day.
