Perth owner-breeder Bob Peters has unearthed another More Than Ready maiden winner with ability to burn in WA.
His 3yo first-starter True Attraction stormed home from last at the half-mile to snatch a narrow victory in the TABTouch Maiden (1300m) at Belmont on Wednesday. “He’s bred to get over ground but looked more like a sprinter today,” Peters said. “We will send him to the farm for a couple of weeks and see where we go from there.”
True Attraction is a full-brother to State Prosecutor who won the Belmont Guineas LR in June and a likely long-range target is the $500,000 WA Guineas Gr.2 on November 24.
Peters and his wife Sandra have been long-time supporters of More Than Ready. Besides State Prosecutor, their stakes winners by the Vinery legend include Group 1 fillies Dreamaway and Perfect Reflection as well as Celebrity Miss, Ideal Image & New Image.
“He got bumped at the top of the straight but picked up and won like a professional,” jockey Willie Pike reported. “He wants a mile and further.”
Peters booked his dam Significant (Flying Spur) to More Than Ready year after year and the next one is a new-season 2yo named Significant Hero. The mare is a half-sister to 2005 Perth Cup Gr.2 winner Crown Prosecutor.
More Than Ready’s Victorian-based 3yo Yulong Earth also won his maiden on debut at Pakenham on Sunday. Trained at Lindsay Park, he burst through a gap to claim the Super VOBIS Plate (1200m) in the style of a colt going places for Yulong Investments owner Zhang Yuesheng.
Yulong Earth was a cheap $34,000 buy as a foal for Sheamus Mills Bloodstock (FBAA) at the 2016 Magic Millions National Sale. His dam Translate (Love A Dane) won a Matron Stakes Gr.3 at Flemington for Lindsay Park, however, he was a bargain for “non x-ray believers” according to a post-race tweet from SMB.
More Than Ready also sired an intriguing 3yo maiden winner in Kentucky last Friday.
His USA-bred filly Bint Huwaar had raced in England and Dubai before returning home for a narrow victory at Ellis Park for owner-trainer Brendan Walsh. She fanned five-wide into the turn and was inconvenienced in the stretch before prevailing in the final stages.
Bint Huwaar attracted buyers in droves at the 2017 Ocala 2YO Sale in Florida when making $1 million to the bid of Al Aasfa Racing. Her dam Miss Mary Apples (Clever Trick) was runner-up in a Schuylerville Stakes Gr.2 at Saratoga and she backed that up with a bullet breeze in 9.60s.
Shipped off-shore, she was well-beaten at Windsor, Chelmsford and Meydan before Walsh stepped in with an offer a fraction of seven-figures.
Walsh, 44, was born in County Cork and started working life at the Irish National Stud followed by learning curves at Kildangan Stud, Dubai, Newmarket and in the USA with Eddie Keneally. He began full-time training with four wins in 2012 wins but that grew to 68 and $3.70 million in prizemoney last year.
He’s found the key to Bint Huwaar and hopefully the boom that went bust will boom again in Kentucky.
