BIG Brown added another stakes-horse to his ever increasing tally when two-year-old Mighty Brown was runner-up in the Sunday Silence Stakes (1600m) at Lousiana Downs in the USA.

Mighty Brown came from back to the field to get within a length of the winner, Got Shades, and take her record to 4st 0-3-1.

Mighty Brown is the first Stakes horse from Big Browns second crop of 2yo’s.  The filly is trained by Tim Ice who had the honour of delivering Big Brown his inital first crop stakeswinner namely Brown Almighty.

Big Brown has sired a total of 41 winners from 71 starters (57.7 percent winners to runners) with 4 stakeswinners and 4 stakesplaced, the Japan Derby placegetter Apollo Sonic among them.

Meanwhile in Europe, Big Brown ace Darwin is likely to take his place in the Group 2 OLBG Park Stakes (1400m) on September 14 as he makes his way towards either the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes or Champion Stakes both at Ascot on October 19.

Darwin topped the Fasig Tipton Ready To Run Sale of 2YO’s in March last year selling for US$1.3 million.

He won his first start at Belmont in New York before being seconded to Coolmore HQ aka Ballydoyle.

The colt remains undefeated in his two UK starts including the Group 3 The Minstrel Stakes at his most recent appearance.

Darwin was the favourite for Group 3 Desmond Stakes run last week but was withdrawn race morning presumably with the impending Group 2 in mind.  In Darwins absence the Desmond was won by last start Haydock Sprint Cup winner Gordon Lord Brown.
