EXCITEMENT is building at Vinery in the countdown to the arrival of American superhorse Big Brown who is due on the farm in mid August.

The Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner will soon leave his Kentucky home at the famous Three Chimneys where a large number of his foals currently reside.

The foal pic opposite, aged just one-day old, is by Kentucky Derby/Preakness Stakes winning champion Big Brown, out of the Belmont Group One Acorn Stakes runner-up Santaria.

A stakeswinner herself, Santaria has produced five winners including Grade Two winning duo Medallist and Point Given colt Air Commander. Her 2005 Sky Mesa colt Formidable was placed in the Group Two Gulfstream Park Handicap.

This powerfully built colt is typical of the Big Brown offspring who arrived at leading stud farms all over North America, including the famous Three Chimney’s Farm in Kentucky.

It was there that Vinery Stud general manager Peter Orton visited to ink the deal on Big Brown’s impending shuttle to Scone.
“Big Brown exceeded my expectations on conformation and his suitability to the Australasian style of racehorse,” Orton said.

“He stands just on 16.1 hands, possesses a particularly kind temperament and handles himself in the covering barn like a real professional.

“The most pleasing aspect for the future of this stallion is the quality of his first foals that I saw while I was in Kentucky.
“They are all strong compact types with good strong shoulders and powerful hindquarters, typical of the Danzig line progeny we see here that are so successful in our conditions.”
