Vinery sire Big Brown opened his Australian account with 2yo Lady Concord on Friday and then added more black-type with Wroclaw on Saturday.
Lady Concord (2f Big Brown – Brothers Dream by Redoute’s Choice) won the Latrobe City Plate (1000m) at Moe defeating Western Desert (Nicconi) and Morzine (Shamardal). She had finished fifth on debut at Sandown Hillside earlier this month.
“She sat just off the leaders turning for home and responded when Daniel Stackhouse asked for maximum effort,” trainer Luke Oliver reported. “She is a talented filly and was very strong on the line.”
Lady Concord is from a half-sister to Charge Forward and was a $55,000 buy from Tyreel Stud at the 2013 Magic Millions. Agent Seamus Mills bought her on behalf of Epona Park owners Jeff and Janine Allis at the Gold Coast.
Big Brown filly Wroclaw earned her second black-type placing in the LR Queen Adelaide Stakes at Morphettville on Saturday. The Lloyd Kennewell trained youngster had made a herculean debut in the Listed SAJC Dequetteville Stakes (1000m) when closing from last to finish runner-up in the 2YO feature.
Big Brown won the 2008 Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes before retiring to Vinery’s Kentucky base.
Internationally, Big Brown has sired 73 winners including 15 stakes-horses on both the grass and the dirt in the USA, Canada, Europe, Asia and here in Australia. There have already been 7 stakes winners from his first two northern crops alone.
