AUSTRALIAN bred Big Brown 2YO Muscovado is aiming to become her sire’s first southern hemisphere stakeswinner when she lines up in the Group 3 VRC Thoroughbred Breeder’s Stakes (1200m) with Glen Boss in the saddle on Super Saturday.

The $150,000 Magic Millions yearling purchase turned in an encouraging debut when placed fifth behind Mossman’s unbeaten Golden Slipper hopeful Mossfun in the Group 3 ATC Widden Stakes (1100m) at Rosehill Gardens on February 15.

Prior to that the Denise Martin syndicated filly had trialled exceedingly well beating stablemate Twirl in one heat before stretching the unbeaten stakeswinner Fighting Sun in her next.

Muscovado is a superbly bred galloper out of Waterhouse’s own former stakeswinner On Type (by Zeditave) whose wins include the AJC Surround Stakes, STC Premiere Stakes and STC Shannon Stakes all at Group 2 level.
On Type’s previous foals also include the Group 3 MRC H.D.F. McNeil Stakes and Debutant Stakes

Meanwhile in Adelaide, another royally related Big Brown 2YO is expected to be hard to toss when Frank Heavens make his race debut at Moprhettville Parks.
The Leon Macdonald/Andrew Gluyas trained bay colt is out of a Carnegie daughter of 1998 Melbourne Cup winner, Jezabeel.
