‘VINERY duo’ Toasting (Congrats) and Maracuya (first crop Big Brown) finished alongside each other in this morning’s $500,000 Grade 2 Black Eyes Susan Stakes (1 1/18m) on the Preakness undercard at Pimlico.

The third placed Congrats filly Toasting was already a Grade 1 placegetter courtesy of her outstanding performance in the Frizette this time almost a year ago.

Taking nothing away from Toasting’s effort, the previously undefeated Big Brown filly Maracuya won a lot of new fans with her fourth placing given it was only her third career start.

A first crop daughter of the Kentucky Derby/Preakness winner, Maracuya had won both of her previous starts at Gulfstream Park in comfortable fashion.

Trained by Texas born conditioner Ralph Nicks, Maracuya is one of 28 individual winners sired by Big Brown and one 16 in 2013 alone.
