ROYALLY related Excites gelding King Ludwig has shown a profound fondness for the Ipswich track recording his second win in as many starts there on Friday.
The four-year-old Toowoomba housed galloper powered away to record a dominating 2-lens win in the Yalumba Handicap over 1350m.
King Ludwig’s last win was four starts prior at Ipswich where he came from near the tail of the 12 horse field to score.
King Ludwig, who has now won 3 from 14 with 4 placings, is from the first crop of Vinery Stud resident Group 1 winner Excites out of a mare by UK classic star King Of Kings.
The horse is closely related to celebrated matron Procrastinate whose foals include Australian bred-South African Champion Lasserfaire, stakeswinner and successful sire Foreplay as well as Time Thief (now at stud) and Personify who sold for $2 million at the 2008 Australian Easter Broodmare Sale in Sydney and is the dam of the stakes-placed Laser Flash.
Procrastinate’s most recent foal to race is the Redoute’s Choice 3YO filly, A Time For Julia, who took out the first race on Caulfield Cup on the weekend.
