MORE Than Ready colt Knoydart can stake a claim to the upcoming Australian Guineas when he lines-up in the Group 2 MRC Autumn Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield this weekend.

The Darley colt ran out a brilliant 5-lens winner at Warwick Farm last month prior to an unlucky fifth at the same venue shortly after when bailed away in between horses back in the field.

The step up to 1400m should be ideal for the colt, says Vinery’s Conor Phelan, who will surge in value should he win a Group race.

“His dam, Regal Cheer, was very effective at or around the 1400m and slightly beyond and the More Than Ready’s have no trouble running the mile, More Joyous is just about the best miler in Australia for the past few years.

“I would imagine Darley have a place for Knoydart in their stallion roster if he lives up to his potential and the phenomenal success of More Than Ready sons at stud would make him a very nice prospect, more so if he can win a sire making race like the Australian Guineas,” Phelan commented.
