The battle between Tasmania’s big guns The Cleaner and Admiral in the Listed Mitsubishi Conquering Stakes at Launceston on Wednesday night proved one way traffic with Admiral claiming a three-quarter length victory in the 1400 metre weight-for age contest.

Having his second run back from a spell, Admiral forged clear to win, while The Cleaner, who has having his first outing since the Cox Plate, faded to finish seventh as a short priced favourite.

The talented Mossman gelding Admiral has been the dominant two and three year-old in Tasmania the last two seasons and looks ready to progress again as an older horse.

Prepared by Barry Campbell, Admiral has the impressive record of 10 wins, four at Stakes level,  and three placings from 15 starts with prizemoney of topping $437,000.

Trainer Barry Campbell said Admiral would have his next start in the Listed Tasmanian Stakes (1600m) at Launceston.

Retained to race by his breeders, Admiral runs for a big group of friends including long time stable client Bruno Calabro and Star Thoroughbreds principal Denise Martin.

He is the first winner for Campbell’s former classy mare Reunification, who won 12 races and over $190,000 in prizemoney with numerous Black Type placings on her resume.

Sadly for the owners, Reunification died in 2014 and her last foal is Admiral, who looks to have many more wins in store.
