STAKESWINNING gelding Excites Zelady will represent his sire, Excites, in a Group 1 when he tackles the SAJC Derby this weekend in Adelaide whilst Sistine Demon will do likewise next week in the Goodwood Gr.1 .

The Chris Bieg trained 3Yo has had a wonderful base to snare Saturday’s Derby with a last start nose second to race favourite Gamblin’ Guru in the Group 3 SAJC Chairman’s Stakes (2000m).

Prior that that, Exciites Zelady was hitting the line behind the same horse and another Derny rival, Kushadasi, in the Port Adelaide Guineas.

Excites Zelady has proven to be a worthwhile purchase for Bieg and happy connection who celebrated a Group 3 win with the horse when he claimed the SAJC Breeder’s Stakes as a 2YO.

And while his dam is by the noted sprinter/miler Zeditave, Excites Zelady’s sire has been able to inject sufficient stamina and toughness into his progeny to carry them up to and past ten furlongs.

At the same time as Excites Zelady stakes his Derby claim, another Excites galloper – Black Jag – will be on show.

The Chris Waller-trained iron horse is one of the fancies in the Richmond Club Provincial Stayers Final over 2100m.

Black Jag has started 41 times with 6 wins, 10 seconds and 5 thirds with earnings of close to $250,000.
