HUSSON FILLY TO SLIPPER

Husson filly Frolic put herself front-and-centre for the Group 1 Golden Slipper with an amazing victory in the Group 2 Reisling Stakes (1200m) on Saturday.
Taking advantage of the outside fence on a Heavy 9 surface at Randwick, she swept past odds-on favourite She Will Reign before spacing the boom filly and the rest of her rivals. Third-placed Villa Carlotta was beaten 7 lengths.

“It’s the best place to be out there,” jockey Tommy Berry said. “I walked the track this morning and told the stewards that’s where I was heading.

“I let her get comfortable early on and then angled wide. I didn’t pull the stick until she was in the superior going and she sprinted quickly.”

Vinery sire Husson got the winner from Redoute’s Choice mare Leveller (G3 TBV Stakes). She’s an unraced daughter of Startling Lass (Luskin Star) who won a G2 Reisling Stakes before finishing third in Star Watch’s G1 Golden Slipper.

Frolic was bred by Marc & Cherilyn Lowe and Vinery sold her (as agent) for $100,000 to Blue Sky Bloodstock (FBAA) agent Julian Blaxland at the 2016 Inglis Classic Sale.

Trainer Michael Freedman predicted Frolic would win better races deeper into autumn after her victory in the RL Inglis Classic (1200m) at Randwick on February 13. “I told Tommy it was his call whether to go wide. I thought she was wavering but then she got out to the better going and showed a great turn of foot. She will be better over longer than 1200 metres.

“The Inglis Classic was a perfect lead-in to this race and now we’ve got another fortnight into the Golden Slipper.”

Frolic’s Golden Slipper pre-post price immediately tumbled into $11 with the TAB. She is on the third line behind She Will Reign ($3.60) who retains favouritism ahead of Houtzen ($4.60).

Vinery has a second-to-none record in the Golden Slipper.  Forensics (2007) was bred by Vinery and champion shuttler More Than Ready supplied Sebring (2008) and Phelan Ready (2009) before Mossman made it 4 wins in the last decade with Mossfun (2014).
