CHAMPION 2YO TITLE AWAITS

Myboycharlie (Ire) sired a juvenile double at Chantilly on Tuesday to increase his lead at the top of the French 2YO premierships from Invincible Spirit and Galileo.

The Vinery stallion has been represented by 15 winners of 19 races in France for earnings over €434,270. He tops the prizemoney table from Invincible Spirit on €402k and Galileo on €390k.

The nearest to him winner-wise is Sageburg (11 winners of 15 races).

Joycetick grabbed the first-leg in Paris with a two-length victory on debut in the Prix des Daguets (1600m). He sat outside the leader and then surged clear at longshot odds ($46) for owner Patrice Gaillard.

He is the third winner for German-bred LR Prix Herod winner Joyce (Chato).

Myboycharlie colt Greyway won for the second time in a month when successful in the Prix du Puits (1200m). He had finished fourth in the G3 Prix Thomas Bryon at Saint-Cloud prior to the running double at Chantilly.

It has been another great year for Myboycharlie with frequent Stakes results.  Class filly Charly Nova came within a head of making it a treble in the Listed Prix Herod (1400m) on Tuesday. Ridden for luck at the tail of the field by Olivier Peslier, she railed up and got to the front at the business end only to be bloused out by Red Onion.

Elsewhere in Europe, Myboycharlie sired top-class 2yo Landfall to win the G3 Golden Fleece Stakes (1600m) at Leopardstown in September. But for being gelded, he would have been one of the market leaders for the 2017 Irish 2000 Guineas.

And breeders will target Myboycharlie’s 3yo filly Camprock when she goes under the hammer at the Arqana Bloodstock Sale in Deauville on December 3. She won this year’s G3 Prix Penelope and was runner-up in the G1 Prix Saint-Alary.

Closer to home, Myboycharlie’s G1 Caulfield Cup winner Jameka is recovering from a torn sacroiliac joint sustained when jumping from the gates in the G1 Melbourne Cup. “It’s not too serious and we should have her ready for the autumn,” trainer Ciaran Maher said. “I’m not convinced she doesn’t get 3200m. We know she runs a strong 2400m but she didn’t even go that far at Flemington so it’s wasn’t a true guide.”

Vinery stands Myboycharlie for an $11,000 (inc gst) service fee.
