BOYNTON FOR MORE THAN READY

More Than Ready’s English colt Boynton did best in a pulsating duel with War Decree to win a high-class edition of the G2 Superlative Stakes (1400m) on Saturday.

Boynton (USA) had made a successful debut at Goodwood last month and stepped up against five other last-start winners on the final day of the July carnival at Newmarket. He asserted in the final furlong and looked an exciting prospect defeating evens favourite War Decree by three-quarters of a length.

The Charlie Appleby trained colt is the 161st stakes winner for Vinery champion More Than Ready.

“He’s come on mentally for that run at Goodwood and we’ve been very happy with his work on the Limekilns,” Appleby said. “He could go to Ireland for the (G1) National Stakes but I will let the horse do the talking before we make a decision.”

Jockey Adam Kirby continued his stellar season letting Boynton find his feet before working into the race in his own time. “He stayed on very strong and then stuck his head out,” Kirby said. “He’s a great mover and has a bright future.”

Boynton (2c More Than Ready – Baffled by Distorted Humor) is a half-brother to G1 Florida Derby winner Constitution and was a $750,000 buy for Sheikh Mohammed at the 2015 Keeneland September yearling sale.

More Than Ready sired another progressive juvenile in Australia on Saturday when Zunbaqa doubled up in the UBET Hcp (1300m) at Morphettville. She was coming off a winning debut at Geelong.

Zunbaqa was a $300,000 buy for Sheikh Hamdan at the 2015 Inglis Easter yearling sale. Her dam Boogaloo (Encosta de Lago) was stakes placed behind Typhoon Tracy at Caulfield.

The Lindsay Park filly is the 14th individual 2yo winner by More Than Ready in Australia this season. He’s second behind Snitzel in that category with winners up to G1 (Prized Icon) and G2 (Kiss And Make Up).

Vinery stands More Than Ready for a $66,000 (inc gst) service fee.
