162 FOR MORE THAN READY

More Than Ready colt Mokarris (USA) looked a proper prospect winning on debut at Haydock in May and he raced right up to that potential in the LR Rose Bowl Stakes (1200m) at Newbury on Friday.

The Simon Crisford trained colt failed to make an impact second-up in the G2 Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot but repaid his supporters as a well-backed favourite in the Rose Bowl. He made smooth progress to track the leaders before Paul Hanagan pushed him clear to score by almost three lengths.

Mokarris is the 162nd stakes winner by More Than Ready and the second in England this week following the Vinery champion’s 2yo colt Boynton in the G2 Superlative Stakes (1400m) at Newmarket.

“I was really impressed when he won first time at Haydock,” Hanagan said. “I rode another one that day and he came past me really good.

“The whole occasion and the ground got to him at Ascot but he was bombproof today. He’s quick and the faster they go the better.”

Crisford said the G2 Gimcrack Stakes at York on August 20 is a possibility and bookmakers were sufficiently impressed to price him at 33-1 for the 2016 English 2000 Guineas.

Mokarris (2c More Than Ready – Limonar by Street Cry) was purchased by Sheikh Hamdan for 220,000gns (AUD 432,640) at the Tattersalls HIT Sale in April. His dam won the LR Prix Coronation at Saint-Cloud and she is a half-sister to G1 Santa Anita Shoemaker Mile winner Talco (Pivotal).

More Than Ready stands at Vinery Stud for a $66,000 (inc gst) fee.
