MOSSMAN IS THE MAN

Telepathic weighed in as the 32nd stakes winner for Vinery sire Mossman at Rosehill on Saturday.

The Chris Waller trained mare won the Listed ATC Frank Underwood Cup (2000m) to earn a start in the G2 Villiers Stakes (1600m) at Randwick where she will clash with Saturday’s LR Festival Stakes winner Mighty Lucky (Casino Prince).

Telepathic is a homebred for Gerry Harvey and he will offer her half-brother by Postponed at the NZB Karaka Select yearling sale through Westbury Stud.

The Kiwi-bred mare has won 6 races from 20 starts and she had gone close to a black-type victory last year when beaten a long-neck in the G3 Rough Habit Plate at Doomben

“She was probably a bit vulnerable at 2000m today but had the turn of foot to win,” commented Waller. “Dropping back to the Randwick mile will suit her in the Villiers and I think she will love getting to the big track.”

Telepathic’s dam Telepathy (Conatus) is a half-sister to stakes placegetter Come on Cugat (King Cugat). It’s the family of Group 1 winners Bonanova (Star Way), Fraternity (Star Way) and Telesto (Star Way).

Meanwhile, Mossman’s champion sprinter Buffering has returned from Perth in fine fettle after his 6th Group 1 victory in the Winterbottom Stakes. He will build up for the $1 million Magic Millions Sprint at the Gold Coast on January 9 before an overseas campaign in Dubai and Hong Kong.

Trainer Rob Heathcote has scrapped plans for Royal Ascot in June. Instead, the champion Queenslander will be set for the G1 Al Quoz Sprint at Meydan on March 26 and the G1 Chairman’s Sprint at Sha Tin on May 1.
