MYBOYCHARLIE STARS AT ARQANA

Champion French trainer Freddy Head targeted a well-bred colt by Vinery sire Myboycharlie at the Arqana Yearling Sale on Saturday.

The half-brother to Group 1 star Charm Spirit sold for €220,000 euros (AUD $331,070) during the first of three sessions in Deauville.

Myboycharlie (Danetime) was Champion French 2yo in 2007 following a Group 1 victory in the Prix Morny at Deauville and he shuttles to Vinery from Haras du Mezeray.  His Arqana colt was consigned by Ecurie des Monceaux who raced his dam L’Enjoleus (Montjeu) to victories at Maisons-Laffitte and Chantilly.

The mare’s flag-bearer has been Charm Spirit (Invincible Spirit) who has been signed to stand at Windsor Park Stud in NZ after Group 1 wins in the Prix Jean Prat and Prix du Moulin at Longchamp and Queen Elizabeth II Stakes at Ascot.

The young Vinery Sire gained a further endorsement when Richard Hughes chose a colt by Myboycharlie for his first purchase as a trainer.  Hughes paid €90,000 for Lot 282, from Haras d’Omméel’s draft and purchased in partnership with Badgers Bloodstock.

Myboycharlie is gearing up for another strong spring carnival and he has stakes winning fillies Jameka and Blueberry Hill nominated for the G1 Thousand Guineas at Caulfield in October.

“Jameka’s aim is very much the Thousand Guineas,” trainer Ciaran Maher said of his G2 VRC Sires’ Produce Stakes winner.  “She could then progress to the Group 2 Wakeful Stakes and Group 1 VRC Oaks if her performances merited it.”

In Brisbane, trainer Liam Birchley is ready to travel south with his G2 Champagne Classic winner Blueberry Hill.  “I still haven’t decided exactly which way to go with her,” he said.  “One option is the Golden Rose at 1400 metres.  It should suit her as an early season three-year-old.”

The $500,000 Thousand Guineas at Caulfield on October 10 is also an option.  “I’m not convinced she is a 1600 metre horse at this stage of her career,” Birchley said.  “I will see how she comes along first.”

Vinery stands Myboycharlie for an $11,000 (inc GST) service fee.
