PEGGY JEAN MAY HEAD TO GUINEAS

Gerald Ryan is confident that talented filly Peggy Jean (Myboycharlie-Lady of Love, by Lago Delight) can recapture her best form when she resumes in the Gr2 Light Fingers Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on Saturday, reports horseracing.com.au

The daughter of Myboycharlie won the Gr1 Sires’ Produce Stakes last autumn as a 2YO but was unable to replicate that form in the spring, finishing unplaced in her two starts in the Gr2 Furious Stakes and Gr2 Tea Rose Stakes.

“I am very pleased,” Ryan told RSNs Racing Ahead. “She probably takes benefit out of Saturday’s race, but I was happy with her trial, her work two Saturday’s ago with Hot Snitzel was very good and she worked very well again yesterday morning.” He added, “I am really happy with the way that she has come up, whether she is as good as she was last autumn I don’t know, but she has come up a lot stronger and doing better than what she did in the spring.” ‘

Ryan said there was a chance that Peggy Jean may venture south at some point during her preparation, and nominated the Gr1 Australian Guineas (1600m) at Flemington on 7 March as an option. He said if connections decided to head to Melbourne she would likely kick-off her southern campaign in the Gr2 Angus Armanasco Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on 28 February.

“There is a big chance you will see her in Melbourne,” Ryan said. “This is just a kicking off point here and she either stays here and runs in the Surround or goes to Melbourne and runs in the Angus Armanasco.” He added, “A fortnight later she is in the Australian Guineas and we will just see how she is going. We will just play it by ear and see how we go, but there is every chance that she could get to Melbourne.”
