Sir Singo will be set for a feature double at Riccarton after landing the Christchurch Easter Cup (LR, 1600m) on Saturday.

The More Than Ready gelding scored by a length in the Listed event to become the Vinery champion’s 140th stakes winner.

“He had no weight on his back and he’s got a good record on the track,” trainer Michael Pitman said.  “He’s part-owned by my brother John and I told him the horse was a huge chance.  Now we will think about the Canterbury Gold Cup (G3, 2000m) next weekend.  It will be a strong field but he’s in form so why not?”

Sir Singo (5g More Than Ready – Indelible by Redoute’s Choice) has won 7 races since breaking his maiden at Riverton in April 2012.  Pitman bought him for just $25,000 out of the Vinery Stud draft at the 2011 Magic Millions National yearling sale.

“His mother sold for $700,000 at the same Sale so he’s been a great buy,” Pitman said.  “And we’ve had a lot of fun with him.”

Sir Singo’s dam Indelible won twice in Melbourne and was also Group 3 placed in the 2007 South Australian Oaks.  She is owned by Vinery partner Greg Perry and has a yearling filly by Pluck and a colt on the ground by All Too Hard.

Perry rounded out Saturday with Randwick feature winner Delectation.  He bred the G2 Arrowfield 3YO Sprint winner by using Shamardal over his More Than Ready mare Grace And Power.
