TREBLE FOR TESTA

TESTA Rossa became only the second Magic Millions winner to sire a winner of the $2m feature after Sydney colt Unencumbered swept away his rivals at the Gold Coast on Saturday and backed it up with a treble at Kyneton on Sunday.

Testa Rossa won the 1999 Magic Millions by 4.8-lens which is the third biggest margin since the race was first run back in 1987.

Unencumbered’s 2014 crown sees Testa Rossa join General Nediym as the only two stallions to `do the double’.

Testa Rossa went onto win six Group 1 races from 1200m to 1600m post his Magic Millions triumph carving out a phenomenally successful (on-going) career at stud.

The Vinery resident has so far sired 48 stakeswinners and 47 stakes-placed led by the likes of globetrotting mare Ortensia, Rostova, Fontelina, Ranger, Red Colossus, Speediness and Twilight Royale.

Testa Rossa has thrown 534 winners at an incredible 72.5 percent strike-rate making him one of the most effective and reliable stallions on the national roster.

That fact was underlined at Kyneton on Sunday where Testa Rossa sired a treble of winners including the Mick Price duo of Titian Silk (3s 1-1-0) and well-related filly Orvieto (ex Radio Song).

The three-year-old filly is owned by Vinery Stud partner Greg Perry is remains undefeated in her two starts to date, each with comfortable margins of 2-lens and 2.5-lens.
