BOMBER BROWN HEADS TO DERBY

BIG Brown 2YO Bomber Brown staked a long term claim to some of next spring’s major classic races after a tremendous show of speed and stamina helped him to an emphatic win in today’s ATC Juvenile Stayers (1800m) at Rosehill Gardens.

The David Payne-trained chestnut was the subject of heavy support being backed in from an opening quote of $4.40 to start $3.50 equal favouritism.
Bomber Brown jumped fast and quickly took up the running under veteran South African rider, Jeff Lloyd.

The chestnut travelled sweetly throughout with Lloyd upping the ante from before the 600m leaving most of those behind him sturggling to keep up.
Bomber Brown increased the margin inside the final furlong streaking away to an impressive 3.5-lens win.

”We aimed him at this race months ago,” Payne said.
“His father won a Derby and he is bred to run over ground.”

The Juvenile Stayers has frequently been a pointer to future Group success with recent notable past contestants in the race being VRC Derby winnerFivenadahalfstar and his Group 1 performed stablemate Drago as well as Payne’s own subsequent stakeswinner, Honorius.

Bomber Brown is the fourth named foal of Flying Spur mare, Talons Shown, and was purchased for $100,000 by Payne Racing from Vinery Stud’s 2013 Magic Millions Yearling Sale draft.
The gelding is Big Brown’s first Australian metro winner and joins the dual stakes-placed Wroclaw and winner Lady Concorde as among the former champion galloper’s local elite.

Big Brown has so far sired 76 winners worldwide comprising 15 stakes-performers on both turf and dirt.
