Vinery Champions More Than Ready and All Too Hard have dominated trade on Day 1 of the Magic Millions National Yearling Sale at the Gold Coast.
More Than Ready topped Tuesday’s opening session with a $380,000 colt destined for Hong Kong and All Too Hard weighed in with a $250,000 colt heading to Melbourne.
The session-topper is from Xandretta (Flying Spur) and ticked all the boxes for Hong Kong. “He’s by More Than Ready who is the sire of our Group 3 winner Eagle Way,” bloodstock agent George Moore said. “We’ve bought him for Marcus Lee and, initially, he will be trained down here by John Hawkes.
“I can see him developing into a nice two-year-old. He’s a good moving, athletic type with a nice hindquarter and an outstanding page.”
The colt is a three-quarter brother to 2005 Champagne Stakes winner Carry on Cutie who was More Than Ready’s first Group 1 winner in Australia. The pedigree improved again in April when close relation The Mission won this year’s edition of the Champagne Stakes at Randwick.
More Than Ready was also represented on the Top 5 leader-board by a $250,000 filly from Costume (Encosta de Lago). She was purchased by Matthew Dunn & Neil Jenkinson and is a three-quarter sister to Todman Stakes-Gr.2 winner Kiss And Make Up who will cover his first book at Aquis Farm this year.
All Too Hard’s half-brother to Group 1 racehorse and sire Savabeel was targeted by Flemington trainer Danny O’Brien. “He’s a beautiful colt and the stallion has got it all in front of him. I expect All Too Hard to have a very productive 12 months ahead once his three-year-olds hit the track.
“He would not have been out of place at the Easter Sale,” O’Brien added after a successful $250,000 bid. “His dam Savannah Success was a Group 1 winner and she’s put plenty into this colt. And it’s the same cross as my Cox Plate winner Shamus Award.”
