RUSHING TO A SECOND BREEDERS’ CUP

More Than Ready’s Group 1 winning filly Rushing Fall has capped another successful Saturday for the Vinery legend in North America.

Resuming after her first career loss at Churchill Downs in May, Rushing Fall was a class above her rivals over 1800m in the Lake Placid Stakes Gr.2 at Saratoga.  She took command after tracking the lead and was never seriously challenged en-route to a three-length victory under Javier Castellano.

An hour later, More Than Ready sired his 190th individual black-type winner when Spanish Harlem claimed the Barely Even Stakes LR at Gulfstream Park.

“Rushing Fall ran great and handled the soft going as we expected,” trainer Chad Brown said.  “Javier really rode a great race and adapted to the slow pace.  He let her lay really close and when he pushed the button, she really responded.

“I’m so proud of her.  She got beat at Churchill Downs a day before the Kentucky Derby and wasn’t quite right when we shipped her back home.  I wanted to run her in the Belmont Oaks but she couldn’t make it.”

Brown has pencilled in the Sands Point Stakes Gr.2 at Belmont and Queen Elizabeth Cup Gr.1 at Keeneland as dress-rehearsals for the Breeders’ Cup meeting at Churchill Downs on November 2 and 3.  She won the BC Juvenile Fillies Gr.1 at Del Mar last year.

Rushing Fall (3f More Than Ready – Autumnal by Forestry) was purchased by Five Racing Thoroughbreds for $320,000 at the 2016 Fasig-Tipton Saratoga yearling sale.  She is a half-sister to Miram (Pica Slew Stakes-LR) and the Saratoga victory pushed her earnings to $1,008,000.

Spanish Harlem received a dream trip in the Barely Even Stakes before coasting to convincing victory at Gulfstream Park.  She was stakes placed at the Florida venue last year after winning a Belmont allowance by 29 lengths!

“I thought she was going to run big today,” trainer Armando De La Cerda said.  “Last time I thought she would run big in the (G2) Princess Rooney but she ran too close to a quick pace.”

Spanish Harlem (4f More Than Ready – Spanish Silks by Fusaichi Pegasus) has won 4 of her 14 starts for Midwest Thoroughbreds.  She is out of a sister to Wood Memorial Gr.1 winner Buddha.
