SPEEDINESS!!!

TESTA Rossa gelding Speediness took his earnings well past the $500,000 mark with a fabulous come from behind win in the Group 3 VRC Bobbie Lewis Stakes (1200m) at Flemington on Saturday.

The Colin Scott-trained 6YO atoned for a luckless fifth in last year’s race when charging home from back in the big field.

Yesterday’s win was Speediness’ 7th career victory and comes 16-weeks after he took out the Scone Cup to secure his breakthrough stakeswin.

“The horse has improved significantly even in his trackwork from Scone to this preparation,” Scott said.

“He was ready to win first-up but there is definitely a lot of improvement left in him.”

Speediness is now primed to run in the Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes in three weeks, followed by the Toorak Handicap – both Group One races – before completing his spring in the Group Two Waterford Crystal Mile on Cox Plate Day.

Speediness has been an incredible money spinner for connection who paid just $18,000 for the horse at the 2009 Melbourne Yearling Sale.

His Bobbie Lewis triumph has his earnings set at $573,622.

Speediness is one of his sires 517 individual winners and among 46 global stakeswinners including Group 1 winners Ortensia and Rostova as well as Fontellina, Sistine Angel, Panipique, Pane In The Glass and Twilight Royale.

Speediness’ victory capped off a memorable day for Vinery sires, certainly as far the famous `straight six’ is concerned after Myboycharlie son Charlie Boy swept away his opponents to win the Group 2 VRC Danehill Stakes (1200m) earlier in the day.
