ANOTHER STAKES PERFORMER – 10

BIG Brown filly Maracuya rose to become her sire’s 10th stakesperformer when she finished runner-up in the Catinca Stakes (1200m) at the famed Belmont Park in New York on Wednesday.

A member of her sire’s first USA-bred crop, Maracuya was a neck off winning her first major bit given this was just her sixth race start, her time will come.

Maracuya has managed to won 3 of his half dozen appearances since making a ftruful debut at Florida’s Gulfstream Park in March.

The Ralph Nicks trained chestnut is one of 43 winners from Big Brown’s opening two crops.

Included among those are stakeswinners Bella Castani, Brown Almighty, Shades Of Sugar and the US$1.3m sale topper and Group 1 bound European Darwin.

Big Brown is also the sire of Apollo Sonic who was placed in the 2013 Japan Derby.

Big Brown has a chance to open his Australian account when Bally Bull contests the Ascend Sales Plate (1010m) at Doomben this weekend.
