LUCKY HUSSLER TO WINNING WALLER?

Stakes winning Husson 3yo Lucky Hussler will be on trial for a transfer to champion trainer Chris Waller in the Tatts Mile L at Eagle Farm this Saturday.

Lucky Hussler (3g Husson – Talaq Dancer by Black Hawk) has opened up a $2.10 TAB favourite for the Listed Tattersall’s Mile and will go for a break – win, lose or draw – after the final black-type race of the season in Brisbane.

Whether he stays with trainer David Kelly on the Gold Coast or goes to Waller is in the hands of managing owner Glen Makauskas and connections.  “He’s a nice horse and probably deserves a chance in Sydney,” Kelly explained.  “But I would love to keep him.”

Standing well over 16 hands, Lucky Hussler is the leading money-earner for incoming Vinery sire Husson this season.  Initially under the care of Kent Fleming, he climbed the grades to defeat Sizzling in the Vo Rogue Plate Gr.3 (1350m) at Doomben in December.

“He was caught wide last time and the wet track was the difference between winning and losing,” Kelly said.  “He’s also been getting to the front too soon but the good draw this weekend should help.”

Relocated to Kelly after Fleming was disqualified in May, Lucky Hussler followed up with placings in the Queensland Guineas Gr.2, Daybreak Lover Stakes L and the Sunshine Coast Guineas L a fortnight ago.

“This is the best horse I’ve trained,” Fleming claimed. “And he’s only going to get better when he gets over more ground.”

Husson (Arg) will stand at a $16,500 (inc gst) service fee for his first season at Vinery this year.  Australia’s leading first-season sire by winners in 2011-12, he’s firmly entrenched in the Top 10 of our second-season stallions with earnings over $1.20 million.
