Miss Husson appreciated the step up in distance to claim her third win this season in the Andrew Bensley Hcp (2020m) at Doomben on Saturday.

A daughter of newly acquired Vinery stallion Husson, she won an Eagle Farm maiden and a Gold Coast Class 1 over 1200 metres before trainer Bruce Hill gradually increased her workload in what is only her second preparation.

Husson completed a double when Hi Son won the lucky last at Doomben but stakes winner Lucky Hussler wasn’t as fortunate in the LR Lough Neagh Stakes (1350m).

Starting the $4.60 favourite following a Group 3 victory in the George Moore Stakes on December 7, Lucky Hussler was severely hampered and checked on to the running rail at the 1000m.  The Husson gelding finished fourth and, under the circumstances, jockey Michael Cahill told stewards he wasn’t disappointed with the performance.

Miss Husson received a better run in transit under Jim Byrne.  She settled back off a solid tempo and travelled comfortably until Byrne made a forward move on the home turn.  She weaved through the field to win in a three-way finish from Amexed and Our Zidane.

“I’ve always had a high opinion of her,” Hill said.  “I was fairly confident she would run the distance and will now wait and see how she pulls up before making any plans.”

Miss Husson (3f Husson – Virgin Snow by Desert Prince) holds a nomination for the $1 million Magic Millions 3YO Guineas on January 11.  She cost $32,000 at the 2012 Magic Millions yearling sale and has earned $84,000 in prizemoney and QTIS bonuses.

Hill trains her for a syndicate of ladies including Jane Baran, Lisa Bratina, Margaret Foster, Annette Hammersley, Sue Jones, Michelle Saba and Donna Small.

They have been patient will the filly whose only outing as a two year-old was in the $100,000 Sky Racing Plate at the Gold Coast in March.  “She flashed home from last to finish sixth that day but pulled up slightly shin-sore,” Hill recalled.  “We knew she had bright future so I turned her out for a break.”

Miss Husson is bred to be a black-type filly – her dam Virgin Snow is an unraced sister to Group 1 winners Hotel Grand (AJC Spring Champion Stakes & AJC Randwick Guineas) and Outback Prince (QTC T J Smith Classic).

Husson (Arg) has a yearling brother to Miss Husson and he also has four yearlings catalogued for the Gold Coast Magic Millions starting on January 8.
