BIG Brown’s tally of stakeshorses rose to 12 when Kentucky bred son Ground Transport finished second in the Tencious Handicap (1700m) in Louisiana over the weekend.

The Michael Stidham-trained 3YO is one of 52 individual winners sired by the Kentucky Derby/Preakness winning champion Big Brown.

Ground Transport is well acquainted with the Fair Grounds circuit having previously finished 5th in the Grade 2 Louisiana Derby earlier in 2013.

Ground Transport’s effort comes at an opportune to for vendors taking a Congrats yearling to sale in 2014 which kicks off at the Gold Coast on January 8 with the Magic Millions Yearling Sale.

There are a total of 20 sons and daughters of Big Brown on offer at the Gold Coast including the first foal of former crack mare, Chakvetdaze.

Big Brown has so far sired 4 stakeswinners from his initial crop in 2010, majority on turf including Darwin, a US$1.3m sale topping Fasig Tipton 2YO in Training, who is being aimed at the major UK classic from his base at Ballydoyle in Ireland and crack 3yo Apollo Sonic which almost took out the Japan Derby Gr.1 (3rd) after the narrowest of defeats in the Gr.2 lead up (2nd).

Big Brown’s oldest Australian bred progeny are 2YO’s and boast the highly-touted Spirit of Joy who was fourth on debut at Rosehill and is being geared towards the $2m Magic Millions 2YO Classic (1200m) at the Gold Coast on January 11.
