COMPETITION FOR TWILIGHT ROYALE

Testa Rossa is building a platform for the spring carnivals with his two year-olds at the back-end of the season.

The Vinery resident has sired another three winners in that division this month starting with promising Perth youngster Testamezzo on June 1.

Testa Rossa filly Il Diamante followed up with a brilliant three length victory on debut at Cranbourne on Sunday. She is from Greg Perry’s Octagonal stakes winner Diamond Cove and cost $130,000 through Vinery’s draft at the 2012 Gold Coast Magic Millions.

Vinery also sold champion filly Atlantic Jewel as agent for Perry at the 2010 Gold Coast Magic Millions.

Exciting prospect The Bowler made it three juvenile winners in a week for Testa Rossa when he won at Mornington’s metropolitan meeting on Monday.

Tony Vasil sent him to Pakenham for an easy kill in May and he backed up with an all-the-way victory on the peninsula. The Aquanita trainer bought him for $67,500 at the 2012 Gold Coast Magic Millions. His dam Specie (Canny Lad) is a half-sister to Golden Slipper winner Guineas.

Vasil won the same race with Elite Elle at Mornington twelve months ago and she graduated into a stakes-winning filly this season.

Earlier in the week, Testamezzo scored a convincing two-length victory in the Margaret River Wine Region Hcp (1000m) at Belmont. He’s another graduate of the 2012 Gold Coast Magic Millions and began paying back a $60,000 price-tag with a debut win at Pinjarra in May.

“He was in a trouble at Pinjarra until Peter Knuckey found some galloping room near the rails,” trainer Dan Pearce said. “He angled through a gap and went on with it for a comfortable win.”

After keeping his unbeaten record intact at Belmont, Pearce will likely send the winner for a spell. “”It’s nice to see the results come in with some of the babies,” he said. “Testamezzo will come back for the main three year-old races at the Ascot summer carnival.”

Testamezzo (2g Testa Rossa – Tremezzo by Encosta de Lago) has been nick-named “Rosco” by his large group of owners and he’s bred to get over ground. His dam Tremezzo won five races in Melbourne and she broke the 2000m track record at Caulfield in December 2007 clocking 2:00.38 seconds.

Tremezzo has a yearling sister to the Perth winner that has been retained by Victorian breeders Rob and June Harding. And the mare is back in foal to Testa Rossa.

Twilight Royale is Testa Rossa’s juvenile leader this season after a G2 victory in the VRC Sires’ Produce Stakes in March. The Bjorn Baker trained filly can bank a massive $2.40 million bonus if she wins the Scone Guineas in May 2014.

Vinery will stand Testa Rossa for a $27,500 (inc gst) service fee this year.
