ANOTHER OAKS, NOW FOR DERBY

ACE More Than Ready filly Moriesh has the chance to copy the epic feats of last season’s WA star Dreamaway by completing a rare WATC Oaks/WATC Derby double.

The Sharon Miller trained filly had already done much of Dreamaway had last season winning the 1000 Guineas and Natasha Stakes in the lead up to her $250,000 WATC Oaks engagement on Saturday.

Ridden patiently by regular partner Troy Turner, Moreish came with a sweeping move from back in the field before powering on to a comprehensive 2-lens win in the classic.

“She’s just a gorgeous filly, isn’t she?” Miller said.

“I just had to keep running her (before she won her maiden) to get a run in this race.

“She wasn’t quite as strong as she is now and she used to get pushed around a bit.

“She settled beautifully in the race.

“She’s done nothing wrong and has taken all the work.

“I think we will (head to the Derby) if she pulls up well.”

Moriesh has become the second Oaks winner in the space of three weeks sired by More Than Ready.

More Than Sacred took out the New Zealand Oaks at Trentham on March 16 and is being readied to become the first filly since Domino in 1990 to win the Trans-Tasman double when she contests the Group 1 Australian Oaks (2400m) at Randwick on April 20.

Incredibly, she as well as Moreish and Dreamaway are all bred on the More Than Ready/Danehill mare cross.
