MAHISARA SHOWS THEM A CLEAN PAIR OF HEELS

STAKESWINNING More Than Ready son Mahisara stamped his quality on yesterday’s The Iconic Race (1300m) at Rosehill Gardens to post the fourth win of his career in most unusual circumstances.

The Paul Messara trained galloper was having his first start in 23-weeks and was apparently still in holiday-mode proving a handful for barrier attendants before the start.

“He gave us a hell of a lot of trouble today out the back,” Messara said.

“He sprung one of his plates and we were no chance of getting it back on.

“He’s physically a big, strong horse and we ended up having to take off both plates and race him without hind shoes on, which is a big disadvantage.

“So what he did was impressive.”

Mahisara won his first two starts as a two-year-old before being sent to Brisbane for the Winter Carnival.

Beaten a nose in the Listed Dalrello Stakes, Mahisara was rewarded at his next outing with a win in the Listed BRC Centenary Stakes (1400m) at Eagle Farm.

He returned at three to finish third in the Brian Crowley and fifth in the Group 2 Sandown Guineas.

Mahisara is one of more than 50 winners bred on the More Than Ready/Danehill nick along with Group winners Benicio, Perfectly Ready, Dreamaway and Golden Slipper/Oakleigh Plate placegetter Elite Falls.

Mahisara was the second leg of a More Than Ready double at Rosehill with champion mare More Joyous bringing up her 20th stakeswin in the Group 3 Golden Pendant Stakes (1400m).
