EXPLOSIVE WIN FROM FIRST CROP EXCITES

EXCITES colt Bombsquad must surely be destined for better races this spring after a booming debut win at his home track at Sale on the weekend.

The Frank Stockdale trained local started from barrier 14 in the 15-horse field shouldering 58kg to boot.  It made little difference in the end with Bombsquad streaking to an emphatic 2.3-lens win over the 1200m journey.

Bombsquad was bred by beloved industry figure Miss Anne Raymond and hails from one Sledmere’s great families – that which provided the exceptional chestnut sprinter, Gold Brose.

(Coincidentally, Gold Brose is the sire of the dam of yesterday’s Concorde Stakes winner, Tiger Tees).

Bombsquad is from the first crop of AJC Sires’ Produce Stakes winner Excites whose initial winners also include the stakeswinning Flag Officer as well as Queensland miss Amber’s Crown who has pocketed over $260,000 in earnings.

“There is no doubt that based on that debut Bombsquad has a bright future,” says Vinery’s Conor Phelan.

“We’ve seen Excites’ first crop go from strength to strength as they mature in a similar fashion to the progeny of his sire Danewin,” Conor continued

“It is never easy for a horse to win their first start but to do it so easily after drawing 14 of 15 and racing wide where he did, this stamps him a pretty promising type who should only get better.”
