WARWICK Farm resident Scream Machine will take aim at the $2 million Group One Doncaster (1600m) in April after the Excites gelding posted back-to-back wins at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday.
A member of Excites first crop, Scream Machine has been one of the most consistent gallopers in training during the late spring and early summer including a close second in the Goulburn Cup prior to his Sydney week-to-week double.
Scream Machine made it back-to-back Rosehill wins when he won a 1900m event at Rosehill on Saturday on protest and looks set to break through the $300,000 mark in the near future.
Kathy O’Hara successfully objected against Marden’s jockey Peter Robl for taking her running early in the race but O’Hara also had help from stewards who fired in their own objection for an incident at the top of the home straight.
“We’ll definitely throw in a nomination for the Doncaster and we’ll see where he sits when he comes back,” Coyle said.
“The whole time along I’ve always said ‘next preparation’, and we’ve been patient with the horse.
“Hopefully I get it right and when he comes back as a later four-year-old in the autumn carnival he will find that extra couple of lengths that he probably needs.”
Coyle was pleased to see Scream Machine take his record to four wins from 16 starts albeit being settled in the Stewards room.
“I thought both sets of interference definitely cost the horse any chance of winning the race legitimately so it had to be won in the stewards’ room,” Coyle said.
Scream Machine is among a number of Excites progeny to win in town in recent times joining Chris Waller’s middle distance type Black Jag as well as the pre-Christmas two-year-olds Excites Zelady (Morphettville) and Madame Fly (Warwick Farm).
“Excites has sired winners in every State on the mainland with and we’re not even half way through the racing season for his third crop,” Vinery Stud’s Conor Phelan noted.
“He has a very nice horse in Victoria named Bombsquad that probably should be unbeaten and he looks at least city class next preparation.”
