ZASTABELLE AIMING HIGHER AFTER BREAKTHROUGH WIN

BENICIO filly Zastabelle picked up a $5000 BOBS bonus when taking out yesterday’s Rising Prince Gold Nugget (1100m) at Bathurst in the central west of NSW.

The David Pfieffer-trained two-year-old was having only her second start in a race after finishing third on debut at Wyong last month.

”The track was a heavy (10) and right on the race it absolutely poured down, you couldn’t even see the horses coming down the back straight,” Pfieffer explained.

”She was four-wide the journey that day and boxed on gamely.

”Obviously yesterday, she improved a lot off her first run, she jumped and settled in behind them then pulled out at the top of the straight and went passed them.

”So things like that is what is going to make her a good racehorse for the future.

”She is a filly that is going need that little bit of time but she is doing everything right at this stage, you can still see that she is very raw.”

Having broken through so early in her career, Pfieffer is keen to test Zastabelle against better opposition again.

”I wouldn’t mind trying to find a 1250m at Canterbury or a 1300m at Kembla or something like that, I think it would be a good goal for her.”

Zastabelle was bought for $12,000 as weanling at the Australian Easter Weanling sale.

The filly is bred on a similar cross as 2008 Golden Slipper winner Sebring, both of them are out of a Flying Spur mare.
