UNBEATEN BENICO TO KARRAKATTA

WESTERN Australia’s prestigious Karrakatta Plate looks well within the range of unbeaten Benicio 2yo, Benny’s Halo who made it two wins from two outings in today’s WATC Westspeed 2YO Plate (1100m) at Ascot.

A son of classic winner and Vinery resident sire Benicio, Benny’s Halo settled midfield of the ten horses before launching his attack from the top of the stretch running through the line to score a half-length over My Bonny Lad with Mount Marion three-lengths away in third.

Benny’s Halo’s continuing rise to prominence is a triumph for Neville Smith who not only trains the gelding, he bred and maintains an interest as owner.

“Benny’s Halo was $16 when he won his first start, in from $21, but the manner of that win and then to come out and back it up, which is not always easy, is a very encouraging sign,” Vinery’s Adam White said.
“Congratulations to Nevillle – he couldn’t have done any more to get this horse going and it looks like turning out to be a good one.”

Benny’s Halo is the first 2yo in Perth to register two wins and the gelding has done so in emphatic style.

“I would imagine that they’d be thinking seriously about the Karrakatta Plate in April and getting him up 1200m is surely going to work his favour the way he races and the he is bred.”
