FIT AND READY

VINERY Stud’s famous green and white ‘V’ colours were to the fore in two states this afternoon with impressive wins by blueblooded 3YO Fit And Ready at Canterbury and emerging stayer Cuban Sunday at Sandown.

The Gai Waterhouse trained Fit and Ready returned from an 11 month break and made light work of her fancied rivals in the ATC Rosehill Gardens Event Centre Stakes (1100m) leading throughout to post a 2.8-lens win.

Fit And Ready’s short, mid and long term prognosis has her well and truly capable of winning a Stakes race after her comprehensive win.

“She put the writing on the wall with a couple of very, very good trials but had to overcome a wide barrier to win today,” Adam White said.

“No wonder Gai loves the More Than Ready breed, they just keep winning races together.”

Fit And Ready is the 9th individual winner out of 21-year-old stakes-winning & Gr1-placed broodmare Fitting (Marscay-Corn).  Fitting is also the dam of deceased Gr1 Golden Slipper-winning former Yarraman Park sire Catbird, Eliza Park’s Gr2-winning sire Danbird & unraced Coats (dam of Gr3-winning Grange Thoroughbreds sire Pillar Of Hercules).

Today’s double comes in the wake of star mare Dubleanny’s carrying the Vinery colours to victory in an outstanding return to racing at Flemington last Saturday.

The daughter of Dubleo will now be given the chance to emulate another Vinery-owned mare, Bel Mer, in the Group One SAJC Robert Sangster Stakes last this month.
