EXCITES FILLY SET TO TAKE QTIS CROWN

TRAINER Steven O’Dea is eyeing off more rich pickings for highly talented Excites filly Amber’s Crown who crafted her third win from four starts at Doomben on the weekend.

The daughter of Vinery Stud’s resident AJC Sires’ Produce Stakes winner won her first two starts before being sent out as favourite in the $250,000 SKY Racing QTIS 600 on a heavy 10 at the Gold Coast.
”She disappointed in that race but it was a really, really heavy track and obviously getting back on to a better on Saturday she bounced back,” O’Dea said.

Amber’s Crown’s comprehensive length and quarter win paves the way for O’Dea to have a second crack at the landing a QTIS jackpot.
”She is the sort of filly that will only have another couple of runs this preparation, there is a 2YO fillies for her at Eagle Farm in a couple of weeks and and another QTIS race at Ipswich at the start of May.
”After that we are considering maybe freshening her up for a Listed race for two-year-old fillies on Stradbroke day.”

Whether she competes during the Brisbane winter carnival this year or not, O’Dea is looking forward to what Amber’s Crown may deliver as a three-year-old.
Her sire Excites trained on after his two-year-old glory to finish an unlucky second in the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas.
”We bought her as a weanling and didn’t pay too much for her, she’s the first foal out of the mare and has done really well up until now,” O’Dea explained.

In fact Amber’s Crown boasts very strong Vinery connections given that her dam, Bovespa, is a daughter of Australia’s Two-times Champion 2YO Sire, More Than Ready.
So far Amber’s crown is one of three winners for Excites who has begun his stud career in most pleasing fashion.
”The ones we have seen have all displayed ability, obviously Amber’s Crown is very good but another of the Queensland brigade, Black Jag, looks to have a bright future.
”Both of Excites parents, Danewin and Staging, were much better at three, four and five so there is plenty to indicate that the progeny will be the same.”
